Nicole is not your average storm. Thanks to a strong area of high pressure north of storm, the wind field is massive. Tropical storm force (40+ mph) winds currently extend over 650 miles across. That is roughly the distance from Detroit to Boston! The large wind field means that even as the storm makes landfall in Florida, tropical storm force winds could be felt as far north as Charleston, SC. A great example of a storm where you should not focus solely on the forecast cone.
