This nebula has everything.
Cosmic clouds, hot young stars, and a butterfly-shaped region of nebulosity all make up this stellar nursery. Located in the Large Magellanic Cloud – a satellite galaxy to our own – this nursery lies 160,000 light-years away from Earth, just south of the Tarantula Nebula.
Also in this photo captured by NASAHubble, the Papillon Nebula, a small dense object classified as a High-Excitation Blob, is left of center and is believed to be linked to the early stages of massive star formation. New stars emit intense bouts of ultraviolet light, causing hydrogen gas to glow blue.
Image description: The blackness of space gives way to bright blue wisps of hydrogen gas mixing with red, yellow, and orange dust. In the center-left portion of this image, a small pink butterfly-shaped region shines bright.
