"'Daddy look at me!'
I was busy (at home) responding to a work email at about 6:30pm. I was hyper focused on writing a response to someone I could have easily done the following day.
For some terrible reason, I felt responding to this email was more important than giving my sweet daughter the attention she needed. I tuned out her efforts to get my attention.
It got to the point where she took matters into her own hands and grabbed me by the face with her two little hands. With her piercing blue eyes, she looked straight into my eyes and said, 'Daddy look at me!'
My mouth dropped as I realized what had just happened. I did not prioritize what mattered most.
Work is important, but it is never more important than connecting with the people in our life that matter most.
I realized I needed to make adjustments to how I spend my evenings after work. When I am at home, I need to literally 'be home.'
At work I give my team, customers, and shareholders my undivided attention.
