Free Mom Hugs is an organization committed to empowering members of the LGBTQ+ community through hugs and open conversation. Since its inception in Oklahoma in 2015, it has since grown to be active in all 50 states, with over 20,000 volunteers across the country. Attending a total of over 160 events this year, Free Mom Hugs has been present at local gatherings such as State College’s Fall Festival, the LION Bash, pride parades and coming out day activities. “We do a lot of what you would think of. That way we can get our name out there and spread love to more places, with more people getting to know about us,” Sigel said. “We know that LGBTQ people are everywhere.
