"Yesterday was my brother’s birthday. It was also the first time I had been able to go and visit my niece at Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital.
My youngest niece was born with HLHS (Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome). She has been in the hospital since birth.
She had open heart surgery at 4 days old. Her parents were told she wasn’t responding how they wanted, so therefore she was placed on the Heart Transplant List.
She then got a bad infection in her lungs, was placed on ECMO (Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation), and had to be taken off the transplant list.
BUT, she’s a fighter. She beat that infection and was just recently placed back on the Heart Transplant List!"
