Never step back on initial clamp!
When you step back, right on contact, half your power is transferred backwards - you end up pushing the ball forward vs clamping straight down onto the ball.
When you meet your opponent, keep your nose over the ball - keep right hand pressure DOWN and close that top rail by turning the door knob. Punch left hand BUT keep it within your shoulders.
Its okay to step back, AFTER your initial clamp - as long as you dont get too extended and are still in a position to bail and counter.
