Did you know yesterday marked 213 years since the cornerstone of the Queen's College Building was laid? #tbt ⏲️⬇️ On April 27th in 1809, President Ira Condict sets the cornerstone for the Queen's College Building, now known as Old Queens. Experts say the structure is considered one of the best representations of Federalist architecture in the country. Completed in 1825, the building included a cupola, the gift of Stephen Van Rensselaer, and a college bell, purchased by Colonel Henry Rutgers that originally signaled the change of classes. In 1976 Old Queen’s was designated a historic landmark by the U.S. Department of Interior. Fun fact ➡️ John McComb Jr., who also designed New York City Hall, is the architect of Old Queen's! Pictured is his rendering. #DYKRutgers | #RutgersPride | #RURahRah ⚔️
