For today's special #tbt, we have the 249th anniversary of the first classes to ever be held at Rutgers.
Held in a downtown tavern, the Sign of the Red Lion, on the corner of Albany and Neilson streets in New Brunswick, the college's first handful of students gathered to be taught by 18-year-old Frederick Frelinghuysen.
Frederick Frelinghuysen is the grandson of Rutgers forefather Theodorus Frelinghuysen and stepson of Jacob Rutsen Hardenbergh, who would become our first president.
