It's a Monday, so we thought we'd look back into the playing career of Duke Butler who would frequently enter PGA TOUR Monday Qualifiers.
In a four-year period from 1974-77, he made six cuts in 28 starts. His best finish was a T25th place in Oklahoma City.
His lasting memory of his PGATOUR playing days was being paired with Jack Nicklaus at the 1977 Atlanta Classic where he said, “We shot the same numbers, Jack scoring 67 to my 76.”
He and Jack would connect again when Butler was named Executive Director of the Houston Golf Association which oversaw the Houston Open. In 1986, Jack won the tournament.
