On This Day: September 16th Our Class of 1982 Professional Player Inductee, Billy Maxwell won the U.S. Amateur in 1951. He won the title at Saucon Valley CC in front of a massive crowd of 7,000 spectators. At the age of 22, Maxwell beat Joe Gagliardi 4 and 3 to become the second youngest to engrave his name on the Havemeyer Trophy at the time.
