Before Springsteen, Dylan and Joplin rocked “The Barn,” one of Rutgers’ most famous alums opened it: Paul Robeson.
On Jan. 14, 1932, Robeson returned to his alma mater as an international star to kick off the first winter concert series at the brand-new College Avenue Gym.
Legend has it, his rendition of “Old Man River” so moved the sold-out crowd, Robeson had to do seven encores before he could close the concert.
Legacy lives here.
