75 years ago, Chico Carrasquel and Minnie Miñoso of the Chicago White Sox became the first Latino All-Stars in MLB history, playing in the 1951 All-Star Game in Detroit. Carrasquel, a native of Venezuela and a four-time All-Star, was the AL’s starting shortstop and went 1-for-2 with a single off future Hall of Famer Robin Roberts. For Miñoso, a 2022 Hall of Fame inductee born in Cuba, it was the first of nine AL All-Star nods. Washington Senators pitcher Connie Marrero of Cuba was also named to the AL squad, but did not get into the game. Since the 1951 All-Star Game, more than 300 Latin American players representing nine different places of birth have been named to the Midsummer Classic. #HHM
