The budget also includes $29.4 million to provide a baseline teacher salary of $38,000 that will be fully funded by the state. Previously the state required school districts to provide almost a third of the cost to raise teacher salaries. @KOMUnews
Notable areas of the education portion of the budget: $233 million will go towards public school transportation, $56 million to expand pre-kindergarten programs and $78 million to increase child care subsidy payments. @KOMUnews

After an originally scheduled meeting time of 8 a.m. today, the budget committee has once again pushed back the meeting again. The conference will not be held until 4 p.m. this afternoon. @KOMUnews

The committee went into executive session after the hearing and voted to pass the bill 4-1.
The bill also lowers the concealed carry age limit from 19 to 18. Additionally, it would allow concealed carry in churches or other places of worship with a valid permit. @KOMUnews

Members of gun rights activists for and against the bill both testified in front of Missouri senators pleading their case for this measure. There was a notable presence of opposition during testimony while only a few proponents spoke in favor of the bill. @KOMUnews

The airport has been in discussions to add a flight to Charlotte, North Carolina, for three years after the U.S. Department of Transportation awarded an $800,000 grant in Feb. 2020. $150,000 also came from MoDOT as well as $80,000 from the city of Columbia and MU each. @KOMUnews

Attorney Bailey stated that the temporary ban is happening due to state law prohibiting “experimental procedures” and that there could be “significant side effects” for patients receiving gender affirming care. @KOMUnews
